We hiked/walked the 804 trail this morning. We can get on the trail about 1/2 block from our house.
The terrain changes constantly.
Where we were, the trail is higher than the ocean. If we had gone north, the trail meets and continues on a beach if the tide is out.
One can climb down to the ocean at many spots along the trail. You get different views and can see the tide pools. Of course, at high tide, some of the beaches and rocks are covered with water.
The paths down to the ocean are all rather primitive but even I can navigate them. The clouds started breaking up...
And the sun came out!
Following the trail, it is one mile to Yachets ... we have never gotten that far! We do a lot of climbing down to the water and climbing back up to the trail.
The historic Yachats 804 Trail probably first served as a footpath for tribal people, later becoming part of County Road 804, which included the 7-mile stretch of beach between Yachats and Waldport at low tide. County Road 804 served as the settler's route of travel between the farmland of the upper Yachats River valley and Waldport's Alsea Bay until the 1930s and the completion of Hwy 101. The highway replaced the oceanside portion of County Road 804, allowing it to resume its ancient use as a footpath. - Yachats Area Chamber of Commerce

Even though we spent 4+ days in Yacchats, I don't remember seeing or reading anything about the 804 trail. Even if I had, I'm sure that we wouldn't have walked it as we were with my dad ... even back then, he had difficulty getting around with his arthritic knees. But if we ever get back out there, I definitely want to hike it! Gorgeous photos - thanks for sharing them.
