2013 NewFO Challenge - December Update

The NewFO Challenge with Barbara over at Cat Patches is easy to do (I think!) - just start a new project each month! You should stop over and see what everyone else has started this month.

As for me, well I made a couple of pillowcases and a duffle bag but … I forgot to take pictures!!! And now they are gone

I began a baby boy quilt. The background is more tan than yellow. I really shouldn't take pictures at night OR I should ask the photographer in the family… The background is done. The blue which doesn't look the right color either is one of the borders and the binding.

I did finish a baby girl quilt.

I wasn't very productive this month. Although I did quilt the fabric for the duffle bag.

Guess I was busy with other things. Life is getting back to normal. For us, that often means traveling. In fact, we are on our way to North Carolina where we'll see our oldest son and his family and we'll visit some friends. When we get back home, I plan to blog a little more and quilt a lot more!

Recap of 2013:

Quilts finished in 2013 - 27 quilting projects finished!

Quilts started in 2013 that need to be finished:

  • BOM from Lucky 2B quilting (all blocks are finished)
  • QOV - February
  • String triangles with white - July
  • 3-D table runner - August
  • sort of secret project - October
  • baby pinwheel quilt - October
  • baby boy quilt - December (above)
Quilts started before 2013 that need to be finished:
  • I decided to not even look!

My goal is to finish everything I began in 2013 before the end of 2014. Of course, there will be more new quilts too!

Happy New Year!

2013 New FO Challenge - November Update

The NewFO Challenge with Barbara over at Cat Patches is easy to do - just start a new project each month! You should stop over and see what everyone else has started this month.

As you may know, it's been a sad month here and I haven't done much sewing. I did manage to begin one project. This wall hanging was made from a panel and now hangs in our side porch/entry way. The quilting is straight horizontal lines with free motion feathers around the leaves.

I  have couple of other finishes - I just had to finish the bindings on each.

A baby boy donation quilt started in September.

A baby girl quiltbaby bricks, started in August.

I also finished a couple of Santa aprons:

I have a few unfinished projects from this year that might(?) get addressed in December.

  • QOV from February.
  • July triangle quilt
  • August 3-D Mini Table Runner
  • September baby girl quilt log cabin stripes
  • October baby quilt
  • October secret project

2013 NewFO Challenge - October Update

Happy Halloween! I am sitting here giving out candy and thoroughly enjoying all of the little ghosts and goblins!

The NewFO Challenge with Barbara over at Cat Patches is easy to do - just start a new project each month! You may want to stop on over and see what everyone else has started in October.

I've been gone more than I've been home this month but one of those weeks was at Quilt Camp so I do have new projects! Most of these were done at camp and since getting home, I have not pressed anything so you will see wrinkles!

This is a challenge quilt from camp. My charm squares were pretty busy for so many little pieces.

I pieced this baby quilt which was a kit from camp. I love the bright colors!

I also began this project which is sort of a secret so I'm not saying anymore!

This is a baby quilt that I hope fits right in a new nursery done in turquoise and gray. I began this quilt after I got home from Camp. It was quick to make and I love the way it turned out.

I know there will be new things started in November and I hope to get a few things finished too.

2013 NewFO Challenge - September Update

Our traveling turned into an adventure. In mid-September, we left Estes Park, Colorado, due to the Colorado floods. At first we thought we were safe but then had to evacuate. It is really a good thing we left when we did - we were extremely fortunate. The only way we could go out of Estes Park was west over the Continental Divide. We spent the first two nights in Grand Lake, CO. Since we were headed to Jackson, WY where Ray had a photography workshop, we moved on to Steamboat Springs, CO for a few days. Then we arrived in Jackson right on time. We left Jackson a day early due to the first storm of the season - 16-18" of snow was expected!

We have just arrived home. Needless to say,  I haven't done a lot of sewing in the last month, but I did start a couple projects.

The NewFO Challenge with Barbara over at Cat Patches is easy to do - just start a new project each month! You may want to stop on over and see what everyone else has started this month. While you are there, check out Barbara's blog. She was also vacationing in Estes Park and left the same day we did because of the flooding!

I have this baby girl quilt started. What is it going to look like? Well, I'm not sure! I bought a kit when we were in Shipshewana in May, but the kit doesn't go with the pattern and the pattern is rather difficult to understand. So, I'm winging it! I do like the colors. I need a large cutting table and ruler so I was at a stand-still until we got home.

I also started this baby boy quilt. When it was time to sew the rows together, I was frantically packing to get away from the flooding.

In another week I will be at Quilt Camp so there is no doubt that I will be starting some new things next month!

2013 NewFO Challenge - August Update

Wow, is it really the end of August already?  Time really does fly when you are having fun! We are living in Estes Park, Colorado, for a few weeks and I haven't done a lot of sewing but I have two starts this month. Here is my temporary sewing area.

I began a baby girl quilt. Not sure if I'll need it - two family/extended family babies are expected but we don't know the sex so I'll just be ready!

I began the 3D Mini Table Runner. I won the kit from treadlemusic. It is so cute and went together fast!

Before we left on this trip, I did get a few things finished.
I finished this baby quilt that I began in July.

I helped grandson Mack finish his quilt.

My BOM square for June:

Crazy Eights is finished! I love the this modern quilt.

======

I really don't want to add too much to my UFO pile this year so I am trying to finish things also. My six month update on 2013 projects:
  • Everything started in January, except my BOM is completed!
  • I still have a QOV to finish from February.
  • Everything started in March is completed!
  • Everything started in April is completed!
  • I need to finish Starry Night from May.

Not bad - I can live with 3 new UFOs! Especially since I have also completed 4 UFOs which were in my pile January 1, 2013!

2013 NewFO Challenge - May Update

How can it be the end of May already??? A lot of this month was spent on the road again but I did find some time to quilt. I'm following the NewFO Challenge where projects don't have to be finished ... just started each month! Visit Barbara over at Cat Patches and see what everyone else has started this month.

Ok, what did I do in the sewing room in May?

1. I started the month by making some little wallets. They are great for gift cards or scrip.

Four little wallets
2. Starry Night - Why start something small like a table runner when I can start a quilt? The pieces are cut and all of the blocks are made!

******
There has been progress on other projects started this year because we arrived home on May 24 and I did not allow myself to begin anything else!

1. My Crazy Eights quilt is together, waiting to be sandwiched and quilted.

2. I have the fifth block done for my BOM. I've started adding corner setting triangles to the blocks that I have finished. I have the sashing made and am in the process of making the corner stones.

3. The entire interior of Spring Bouquet is quilted! The four borders are all quilted! The pieces needs to be put together with some finishing quilting. Then the binding.

I have lots of new projects I want to begin... at least one or two coming in June!

2013 NewFO Challenge - April Update

Here are the quilting projects that I started in April. For this challenge, projects don't have to be finished ... just started! You can visit Barbara over at Cat Patches and see what everyone else has been working on this month.

1. I began April by making this Tiny Pineapple. It is a 3" square

Paper pieced Tiny Pineapple
and lives in this frame.
Frame is 7 3/4" square.

2. One of my goals this year is to make a Modern Quilt.  I have started making 64 patch 12" blocks in various colorways. I'm calling the quilt Crazy Eights. I have nine blocks done, all in different colors.
Blue, orange, teal, melon, yellow, pink, green, red, and purple blocks
3. I just read about the To Boston With Love flags and  I made four.

Updates on earlier 2013 projects:

1.The April block of the 5th Anniversary BOM Quilt at Lucky2BQuilting is done. One of these days, I'l begin putting the blocks together. There are three per row and I now have four done.
2. Spring Bouquet is appliquéd! I am stippling this quilt in a small scale and outlining each appliquéd piece. I am quilting this in pieces and it is taking a while! There are 9 interior blocks and 4 border pieces. Here are the top 6 interior blocks, all done!
Applique is outlined and background is small scale stippling.
3. My Buggy Barn table runner is done.

I guess that's it!
