My father considered a walk among the mountains
as the equivalent of churchgoing.
~Aldous Huxley
Hiking in the mountains is definitely a spiritual experience. We love the peace and quiet and being one with nature. However, when there are a lot of people, it's not quite the same.Today we drove Going to the Sun Road from the west side of Glacier NP to Avalanche Creek where the road is still closed while they finish clearing winter snow. On the weekends, one can walk or ride a bicycle up the 13-still-closed-miles to Logan's Peak. MANY people were there.
It took a long time to find a parking place and that's when we decided we didn't want to be a part of the madness. We drove back down Going to the Sun Road, stopping at some of the viewpoints. The haze was better early this morning but seems to get worse with the sun and heat.

We hiked the loop to John's Lake. We met very few people - it was the perfect way to spend our morning.
We really couldn't see much of the lake but I did get one photo. There is so much reflection that it's hard to see water.
Back on Going to the Sun Road, you can see the haze getting worse across Lake McDonald.
We spent some time in the pool late this afternoon. Our hosts have an indoor pool and they make it available to their guests. They only have one rental so we are the only guests. It was great!
As we were getting out of the pool, our hosts invited us for snacks on their back porch. We had an enjoyable hour and a half.
It's been a great day!
Now it's time to think about tomorrow - we will head to Bozeman, MT. We need to do a load of laundry and pack up.
I keep reading all of your posts (very late, sorry). What a great trip. Lovely views.
