Baddeck Socks or Baadeck Socks

My Baddeck Socks are done! I bought the yarn at Baadeck Yarns in Baddeck, Nova Scotia in June. I thought it was only fitting to name these My Baddeck Socks or should I call them My Baadeck Socks?

I love the yarn - Turtlepurl Yarns Striped softshell turtle toes. The skein came in two pieces so I could easily make matching socks. The name of my color is What does it Mean? My socks are super soft.  

I used Ann Norling's Adult Basic Sock pattern. I probably won't use the pattern again as there are other patterns that I like better.

One thing I learned from the owner of Baadeck Yarns is to knit the first row in top down socks. I have always started the ribbing immediately. Knitting the first row is easier and the socks look and feel better.

Updates: 
Quilting - I'm making progress on the two tops I began at the retreat.
Dehydrating - Cucumber chips are good!
Poison Ivy - It's still with me - seems to be a little more severe than I originally thought. The first steroid treatment will end tomorrow. I think it's improving but looks like I still have a ways to go...

One more scarf

I just had to make one more scarf using Teryn Pierce's Seeded Reversible Cable Scarf pattern. 

This one is off-white  although the photo looks more like tan. I used gobi yarn - 40% Merino wool, 30%  Camel wool, and 30% Alpaca wool. It is soooo soft! 

 Here is a close up of the cables.

The blue one is a little shorter - it is made with Encore Chunky, 75% acrylic and 25% wool.

This new scarf isn't for me but I think a gobi one is in my future!

Some knitting finishes!

I finished this sweater while we were traveling but I just blocked it yesterday. This is the first sweater I have made in many years. I used to make sweaters for the boys when they were little. The only other time I made a sweater for me was in 1975! 

The hems and the neckline roll. This fits but I'd like it to be longer. I'd also like the sleeves to be shorter. So I will take care of that on the sweater I am knitting now.

I made this headband/ear warmer while we were traveling. The yarn is variegated - you can see the light to dark shading in the pictures.

It is now finished with a button.

It doesn't really go with my winter coat - what was I thinking?!

So yesterday I bought some 'white' yarn and made the same pattern last night. I love the lacy design.

I used the same button that the brown one has - I really wanted to get this done - the snow is coming!

I don't think you can see the buttonhole but there is one at the opposite end as the button.

Knitting ...

Since we've been traveling, I've been knitting instead of quilting. My sweater needs the neck finished and of course, it is not blocked yet. Sorry no pictures yet.

This headband/ear warmer hasn't been blocked but it is done except for a button. Can you see a little of the lace pattern?

The picture isn't very good - sorry about that. The yarn is variegated brown and gray/blue with orange flecks. 

I made it today - actually tonight! We cooked dinner in our condo here in Wilmington, NC. While the lasagna was baking, I knitted. I fixed Stouffer's frozen lasagna and garlic/cheese bread - real tough! After dinner, I finished it while we were watching TV.

Our weather has been great - another 75 degree day!

I'm a quilter but...

I'm a quilter but sometimes I knit! 

My newly retired friend, Nancy, knits and we have decided to try to get together every so often and knit at a 'local' yarn shop. The yarn shop is local for Nancy - there is none where I live. I decided that I should knit something before we meet later this week - and it's a good thing I did! It took me 20 minutes to remember how to cast on!

From then on, all went well. I made myself a hat from worsted Merino wool. 

The hat is on an acorn squash - I don't have a head stand.

 The pattern is from Ravelry and is a butterfly design.

We stopped at the yarn shop on our way to State Volleyball and I picked up some more yarn (worsted Merino wool) for a hat for Ray. The pattern I had wasn't going to work (I didn't have the right size needles with me.) so I  found a pattern on the Internet. Ray wanted the hat to have a cuff/rollup. It would have been really neat if I had some colored yarn to put in stripes.

Here is the top of the hat. I'd like to make it again with stripes. The stripes would form a square on the top of the hat. Oops, you can see that acorn squash in the background.

I'm a quilter but sometimes I sew! 

I decided that I needed a neat bag to carry my knitting so I made one. I found the pattern online.

I made a few changes and I'll make a couple more if I make this bag again but this will be fine for now.

It has a magnet closure and I added pockets for knitting needles and supplies.

I'm a quilter but sometimes I do other things! Not very often though!
