Where do the days go?

In the last 2 - 3 weeks, we've spent some time helping our younger son and daughter-in-law with their new house. We've torn out carpet tack strips, stripped wallpaper, painted, and done some yard work. One day I logged 6.5 miles working in their yard - Ray volunteered to trim trees and bushes and I hauled stuff to the burn pile. No day was hard but my body, with it's metal screws and cement, rebels a lot. I did no damage to myself but I did take at least a day to recover for every day worked. Nevertheless, the physical labor always feels good and we love to help whenever we can.

I've been getting ready for a quilt retreat next week. I have two quilts all cut and ready to sew. One is paper pieced

and the other has a zillion half square triangles.
Kaffe Fassett fabrics and lots of HSTs
There were 3 quilts that I did not get finished before we left in May. The tops were done but that was all. I am now binding one of the quilts and it will hopefully be done this week.

Another quilt snuck in and the simple but bright top is now done. I hope to get it sandwiched, quilted, and ready for binding yet this week.

Today we were in Roscoe, Illinois at Julieannes Quilting. She is closing out her fabric, patterns, notions - everything. She will continue to do long arm quilting. I've never been to the shop before and it was small but very nice. The sale began Saturday and she was closed on Sunday and Monday. All precuts were gone when she opened this morning! I did find fabric - mostly for backings for future quilts.

I brought these pieces home on the bolts.

A few more pieces...

I can't believe over 50 yards of fabric came home with me. I did save over $250 dollars which was awesome!

On our way home, we also stopped by one of our favorite farms and picked up cabbage, green beans, green peas, peppers, potatoes, and zucchini. So do I sew or do I work in the kitchen? Always a dilemma!

The weather is supposed to be wickedly hot the next few days. I'm thinking that it will be great inside sewing weather!

  1. And we wait on possible storms & heavy rains late tonight/tomorrow a.m. Will they come or not??? The campground we used to be in is on alert for evacuation. The river is coming up from earlier storms so these will present serious problems and maybe put the campground under water! We don't miss the constant 'not knowing' if we have to rush and move everything. Quilting or cooking (or other such 'life' stuff) certainly fills our days, hmmmmmmmm????? A bridal gown alteration is "breathing down my neck"!!!!

    1. Sure hope you don't get bad storms. I'm sorry to hear that that campground may need to be evacuated. Glad you no longer have those worries. All of these decisions - yes, life stuff - and I just want to quilt! I do think I'll find time in a day or two.

  3. Wow, wow, and more wows! Love seeing your projects for retreat. The second block reminds me of a kaffe fasset top I have to get quilted...love those fabrics! Glad you picked up some fabrics. I'm sure you'll put them to good use. We are also having a heat wave, so I try to keep the house cool and do more sewing just like you!

  4. You beat me, fabric wise. I brought home 15 yards of 110" wide backing fabrics, and some 'extra's from the thrift stores and the quilt show members garage sale booth.
