A colorful wallhanging

I bought a pack of 24 batik fat quarters at Sew What Fabrics in Wytheville, VA on our recent trip. There weren't any blues so I also bought three blue batiks. When we got home, I found this quilt on the Internet. It is called Between Charming Friends.

There is something about the quilt that I really liked although I'm not crazy about 1930s fabric reproductions. I looked at the pack of batiks and inspiration hit! I removed 2 brown batiks from the pack and added 2 aquas and 1 green from my stash along with some plain white fabric. From the 28 colors, I made five squares like this one ~ each with 16 colors.

And four like this one ~ each with 4 colors and white.

After the piece was quilted, I added the binding which was a batik that was in my stash. The blue back is also from my stash.

And the whole thing doesn't really look a lot like the quilt I saw, but I love it!

I machine quilted this! I don't like doing hand work on batiks - it is very hard on the hands. However, I still finished the binding by hand.
