Our first full day in Thunder Bay

Post delayed due to a very slow Internet connection.

We woke up Saturday to overcast skies and cool weather so we decided to do some inside things. It had also rained some during the night.

We went to the Country Market – a very large Farmer’s Market with much more than we would typically find.

This is housed is a huge building on two floors and there are also booths outside. There were somewhere between 75 and 100 vendors. Wow!  I love Farmer’s Markets. We hadn’t exchange any currency and found that most vendors didn’t take credit/debit cards. So we passed by some incredible looking vegetables, fruit, pastries, fish, ...  I did buy some wild rice from a guy who took credit cards. He offered to sell me gift certificates to the market but I really didn’t know how many to buy.

Our host suggested Canadian Super Store for groceries. It was a large store with the emphasis on groceries. The rest of the store reminded me of a Target store. We found everything on our list and more! It is fun to see the differences in products from what we have. The packaging is both English and French.

We stopped by the only fabric store in Thunder Bay, Ontario - Circle of Friends Quilt Shoppe
It is a very nice little shop in a charming older home and the people are super friendly. I found two pieces of fabric that I wanted for backings.
We had visited with a couple of ladies and then the owners, Lucy and Tony, chatted with us for quite a while. They convinced us that we needed to have cake with them - they are celebrating the 6th anniversary of the shop. So we sat down and enjoyed a delicious piece of cake layered with fresh strawberries in a pudding or custard (I’m not sure but it was fantastic!) Lucy said she only buys the best fabric for the shop and the best cake. By the time we finally left, we felt like we were in the Circle of Friends! I even got a hug.  It was a fun time.

Later in the afternoon we hiked in Trowbridge Falls Park which is very close to our rental. The falls are very low but there are many. There are trails on both sides of the river; we stayed on the side with the trail near the water. I loved listening to the water and seeing the falls – it was very peaceful. We only met one guy on the trail and that was shortly before the light rain began. The park is very close to our rental – we hope to go back and walk across the bridge to check out the other side.

I really have to find out what kind of rock this is.

My favorite photographer taking photos and

seeing his reflection!

A mama deer and two young ones (they no longer had spots) passed through our yard tonight. I love seeing the wildlife.
