Maine again!

We are back in the USA but only for a short time!

We left under sunny skies this morning although it was only 48 degrees. A beautiful day in New Brunswick:

We have been in sunshine all day and the temperatures were close if not in the 80s this afternoon.

Crossing the border was pretty fast. We crossed just west of Woodstock, New Bruswick and east of Houlton, ME. We also switched from Atlantic time to Eastern time at the crossing. We stopped for a picnic on the USA side at Visitor Center.

A beautiful day in Maine:

After we arrived in Brooks, Maine at our rental, our hosts were telling us about a country music festival in the park. We were all set to go until they told us about Belfast, ME a coastal town only 15 minutes from here. We headed to the coast.

Belfast has many neat shops including a quilt shop and a yarn shop! We arrived about 4PM and many shops were closing at 5PM so I did some fast shopping. At the quilt shop, Fiddlehead Artisan Supply, which also had scrap booking and needle arts supplies, I found a few Kaffe Fassett fat quarters and decided I'd be happy with that. I have a duplicate but that's fine. I really liked many of the fabrics in the shop but there wasn't much time to shop!

We walked on the waterfront

down to the shipbuilders. They have two large machines with slings to lift boats out of the water. They can lift some huge boats. When there is a storm, many boats and ships come to Belfast to be lifted from the water.

There were some huge boats in the shipyard. That is Ray in the red shirt, being dwarfed by the big boat.

We had dinner at Meanwhile in Belfast; they make sourdough neapolitan pizza. It was really good. If I knew Italian, I could tell you what we had on it. But I don't so I can't!

We can hear some of the country music from outside our rental - we are just outside this small town. We decided to skip the festival because Ray wanted to take some pictures. Our hosts have a beautiful yard, a pond, and many flower gardens. We'll be able to see the sunset from the yard.

My body is pretty confused about the time - again! I'm really tired and thinking bedtime may be a little early tonight.

Last night we were in Dieppe, New Brunswick at Victorian Apartement, another airbnb rental. The apartment was super clean, very comfortable , had a wonderful bed, and the kitchen was well-stocked. Linda was easy to work with and left us plenty of goodies for breakfast. We wish we could have stayed longer than one night and definitely will if we get back to this area. Another 5 star place!

Tomorrow we are heading to New York...

  2. Oh yes, it is so much fun to "travel with you". Looks like you're having beautiful weather (albeit a little on the chilly side).

As you might guess, I would have made the same choice ... the coast always wins in my world. Ha! Wow, Ray is teeny tiny compared to that boat!
