Hello Canada!

We are in Canada!

We left this morning in gorgeous weather and drove to Quoddy Head State Park near Lubec, ME, to see the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse.

This lighthouse was built in 1857 and over the years, the number of red and white stripes have sometimes changed when the lighthouse is painted!

I think the red and white stripes are really neat.

This is the eastern most point in the USA.

We drove Highway 1 most of today and it was a beautiful drive. After leaving the lighthouse, we continued on and crossed the USA/Canadian border at Calais, ME / St. Stephen, NB. It was a pretty fast crossing.

Very shortly after going through customs, we stopped for a picnic at a park by the water. Looking across the water is the USA. It was windy and a little cool but still nice.

We continued on Highway 1 which was quite scenic and eventually turned off on Highway 114 to Alma. We drove through Fundy National Park and then had our first view of the Bay of Fundy. It was beautiful.

We stopped at an overlook and I just wanted to have a seat and look at the water. So I did and Ray did too for a few minutes.

This is what we saw.

Eventually we continued on and found our rental. We have a suite so it is just a large room with a small kitchen but the views are incredible. This is the panoramic view from our picture window.  Ray is already out taking photos.

This is our picture window,

one of our patios with the other picture window,

and our other patio.

It will work just fine!

In Surry, we stayed at Cottage in Surry Maine. The house was great – clean, comfortable, stocked with what we needed, and we had plenty of room. We loved being in a rural location and enjoyed the hummingbirds and the night sky. We'd definitely stay there again - 5 stars.

We are now on Atlantic Time. We'll probably sleep in tomorrow. There is a 40% chance of rain but we'll eventually be out and about no matter. This is a beautiful area!
