A great day in the Stowe area

We decided to head north to Stowe and the surrounding area on this beautiful, sunny day.

Our host, Bob, suggested that we go the inside route so we traveled highways 7,  17, and 100. It was a great drive through the Green Mountains with a stop at the summit, Appalachian Gap with elevation 2356.

Isn't the guard rail interesting with all of the stickers and notes?! The whole guard rail was covered.

In Waterbury we stopped by Ben & Jerry's. We toured the company and got a 'free' sample. It really was almost free since the senior price for the tour was $3!

The sample was a full scoop so we decided not to buy any more.

Cold Hollow Cider Mill was next on our list. The cider was very good as were the apple cider donuts. This is beginning to sound like a food trip!

After a stop at the Visitor Center in Stowe, we found a picnic site near the Stowe Recreation Path. We weren't overly hungry but decided to eat something substantial before our hike. Yes, I tried hiking today!

We stopped at Bingham Falls. I made it over halfway but at the rock/small boulder field (not pictured), I turned back. Ray said it was a neat waterfall.

We spent some time in Smuggler's Notch State Park where there are huge boulders and quite a history.

A little squinting in the beautiful bright sunshine
We drove the Edson Hill Road to see some great views and a few very impressive homes.

Then we headed to the Trapp Family Lodge. That's the Sound of Music family. It is a gorgeous resort in a fantastic setting.

We ended our Stowe Adventure with another hike; this one to Moss Glenn Falls. The first part was a walk in the woods,

along a river.

With Ray's help, I made it all of the way up to the waterfall and it was worth it.  Gee, looking down, it doesn't look that steep!

This is an awesome waterfall.

On the way back to the car, my favorite photographer got up close and personal with the river next to the trail.

We drove a different, faster route home. It was a great day and I loved doing a little hiking. Now it's time to rest!

  1. Beautiful pictures! Love the reminder of home. Glad you had a great time. That last bit to the falls was steep - glad your ankle made it.

  2. Looks and sounds like you had a fantastic day! I think my highlight would have been to visit Ben and Jerry's! But those waterfalls do look beautiful too!

  3. Yay for making it all the way to the falls!

And yay for the "free" sample of Ben and Jerry's, too. Yum! Where you able to choose whatever flavor you wanted?
