We woke up to fog, haze, and mist. Guess that is pretty typical around here!
We headed for Newport since we had to get the oil changed in Jeep. Our appointment was for late afternoon but we got a pretty early start. First stop was Quilter's Cove. I added a couple of basics to my stash. She had a lot of art quilt patterns using raw edge appliqué.
The friendly owner helped us plan our day and sent us to Georgie's Beachside Grill for lunch. You can't go wrong asking quilters where to eat! It was a great meal - halibut, fries, and steamed carrots. Too bad we were too full to sample marionberry cobbler. Have you figured out the I love halibut?
Next stop was Devil's Punchbowl. This is a huge rock formation that has been hollowed out by the surf. There are two holes where water comes crashing in with the waves.

There were a number of surfers near the Punchbowl. All had wetsuits - it was quite cool.

When we arrived at Cape Foulweather, the weather was still cold and dreary but the scenery was still incredible.

A gray whale was spotted while we were at the Cape but we didn't see it.
Yaquina Head Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse along the Oregon Coast.

It's an interesting area because of the wildlife - birds!
During Spring, 65,000 cormorants, murres, gulls and guillemots flock to the area, much to the delight of area bald eagles and peregrin falcons - http://www.arroyorain.com/2011/11/21/yaquina-lighthouse-birds-and-a-few-facts/

We made it home just in time to watch the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup! Yeah!
Interesting story on Cape Foulweather. And an unusual name. ;-) Glad you were able to see the Hawks win. It was an exciting game.
