A Day in the Columbia River Gorge

It's been a beautiful day here. The very warm weather (90s) didn't hit until this afternoon.

This morning we got an early start and visited a number of the waterfalls in the Gorge area. The Mes went along and enjoyed the day.

We hiked up to some of the falls - it was fun to be there early when it was relatively cool and there were few people.

The drive was gorgeous in the thick cover of trees with the sun peeking through.

After the waterfalls, we headed up to the Vista House and Crown Point Overlook.

We drove up to Larch Mountain and hiked up to the top we found the easy path on the way down! It wasn't too hazy yet and we had beautiful views of Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood, and Mt. Jefferson. The sun was very bright and almost overhead so my photos aren't very good.

Mt. Rainier 97 miles in the distance
Mt. Adams 54 miles away
Mt. Hood 22 miles away
Mt. Jefferson 62 miles away
After a late lunch, we headed to Hood River. First we saw the wind surfers and kite boarders  We didn't stick around too long because it was so warm even with the breeze.

Next we stopped by ETC- Ever Thread Counts. It's a nice little quilt shop with a very nice owner. We chatted for a while and left with the equivalent of a couple of jelly rolls, a new ruler, and a yard of fabric that I just had to have. Tuesdays are 15% off for people over 65 - a nice surprise!

Then we found Knot Another Hat, a great
yarn shop with a large selection. The owner was extremely helpful and so nice. I hoped to find some Oregon yarn and I wasn't disappointed. The bonus was seeing a sweater that I loved and being able to get the pattern.

We wandered down the street but didn't get too far - it was just too warm to shop!

  1. We weren't able to see Mt. Ranier when we were driving along the Columbia River Gorge. I tried to get a shot of Mt. St. Helens, but we were traveling with others who wanted to go, go, go ... no stopping for photos. :-(

  2. Remember the yarn photos but all the rest are gorgeous, too!
